RenderMan Studio 2.0 is the latest version of Pixar's advanced suite of tools for shading and lighting TDs. Highlights in version 2.0 include a series of significant performance enhancements, which should be immediately apparent on many scenes.
Latest Features Include
Renderer Enhancements
- Enhanced Threading - Significant gains when using multiple processors
- Accelerated Ray Tracing - Substantial performance optimizations
- Faster Depth of Field - For scenes with fast-moving objects and heavy blur
- Faster Subsurface Scattering - With a new threaded version of PTFilter
- Faster AOVs - Significant improvements for secondary outputs
- More Efficient Polygons - Complex meshes have big performance gains
- Optimized Long Curves - Long hair is now easier to render
- Organized Point Clouds - Better performance through improved memory efficiency
- Ray-Traced Procedural Unload - Trace procedural geometry with greater memory efficiency
- And more ...
New Compatibility
- 64 bit Vista Support
- Maya 2010 Support
- Mac 10.5.x Leopard Support
Improved Workflow
- Improved Asset Management - For better rendering in a production environment
- Enhanced Extendibility - More flexible for production pipelines
- RSL for Maya Materials - Now may be easily customized
- RIB Boxes - Attach RIB directly to objects
- New DRA Workflow - A new UI makes delayed read archives simple to setup, even for animated archives
Slim 8.0
- Co-shader Support — Slim now offers co-shader support in the form of a co-shader template.
- Subsurface Scattering — Slim now supports RFM's implicit pass mechanism for subsurface scattering, as well as the new subsurface() shadeop.
- Multiple Output Templates — Slim supports templates with multiple outputs, i.e. templates of type "multiple". Middle mouse click on an Appearance to bring up a menu of outputs.
- New Templates — Over ten useful templates have been added to Slim.
