Price Restructuring FAQ
Learn how RenderMan is now more affordable than ever.
What is the new price of RenderMan?
RenderMan now costs $495 per license, providing access to either the artist interface or the batch renderer. For larger requirements over 25 licenses, attractive custom studio packages are available providing additional Peak Render Capacity and volume discounts.
Are RenderMan licenses either floating or node-locked?
All commercial RenderMan licenses are floating only, providing the flexibility to deploy RenderMan anywhere on your network.
What options do I have to purchase RenderMan for commercial use?
RenderMan can be purchased either individually at $495 per license, or for larger quantities, through an incrementally discounted Peak Render Capacity (PRC) package that is configured to provide you with enough rendering not only for your everyday requirements but can also include additional burst render capacity to meet tight deadlines. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or your local reseller where we can design an attractive Peak Render Capacity package tailored for your specific requirements.
Is maintenance on RenderMan available and what does it cover?
Yes. Maintenance is $200 per RenderMan license for commercial users and includes full support and upgrades within a 1-year term.
What is the reasoning behind the new pricing?
Given the continually falling price of computing access on both physical and virtual platforms, all trends point to studios and individual artists needing more and more rendering licenses for a given budget. Reducing the cost of the individual render license makes it easier to cost effectively expand capacity and generate higher quality pixels. Pixar has established a new price point to specifically encourage accessibility and remove barriers to growth, all as part of a long-term rendering strategy that will channel new rendering technologies from Disney / Pixar into the production industry.
As an existing RenderMan user, how many RenderMan licenses do I have?
Simply add up your older RenderMan Pro Server and RenderMan Studio licenses. If you have 20 RenderMan Pro Server and 6 RenderMan Studio licenses you have 26 new RenderMan licenses. When the latest RenderMan (version 19) is released, you can vary the ratio of batch renderer (what was RenderMan Pro Server) and artist interface (what was the RenderMan for Maya plugin) at any time. If you need further clarification on your current license entitlement, please contact RenderMan Sales
What do I do if I recently purchased RenderMan at the old price?
Every situation is different. Please contact RenderMan Sales where we have options for more recent purchasers.
