Installation and Licensing Guide

Installation and Licensing Guide

The following information provides guidance for installing and licensing RenderMan Studio.

Installation Requirements

The following are required to install and use RenderMan Studio:

  • Windows Vista, 7, or 8 (64-bit only)

    or

  • Macintosh OS X (10.6.x or higher)

    or

  • Linux gcc 4.1/icc 1.1.1 (64-bit only)

  • Maya 2012 or 2013

  • X11 (OS X only)

  • A license, as provided by Pixar. Whether your licenses are floating or node-locked, the license file is now an XML-formatted file named pixar.license. The file is provided to you either by the Pixar license administrator, via the Pixar LicenseApp, or via Pixar's web-based licensing tools using an Entitlement system. The Entitlement system is capable of delivering a floating license to your license server and "stub" licenses to your artists' desktops, or a node-locked license directly to your workstation.

Download Packages

You should have downloaded the appropriate package(s) for the platform and version of Maya that you use.

The packages are named like so:

Product-Mayaversion-release-OS.package

The packages are delivered as .msi files for Windows, .tgz files for Macintosh OS X, and .rpm files for Linux.

  • Note

The Windows packages are compatible with Windows Vista, 7, and 8 (64-bit). There is no officially supported build for Windows XP.
