Hi all! My name is Alex Shilt and I'm a Set Modeling/Dressing artist at Pixar! I grew up in the great state of Ohio where I spent a bulk of my childhood playing in the woods and frequenting the movie theater. Out of all the films I watched, I always gravitated towards films that developed rich worlds where I could completely lose myself in them, so when coming up with concept art to model during the final week of my PUP internship, I chose a piece entitled Lodge in the Woods by Vasylina Holod. It included the organic qualities of nature while incorporating the fantastical qualities reminiscent of the films I love. It felt as though it had some Tim Burton/Jim Henson magic (Also a little bit of Sam Raimi since the bottom cabin looks like my favorite little cabin from Evil Dead).
Have fun! I'm excited to see what you do with this "Woodville" asset!

Since 2008, Pixar has invited a few promising undergraduate technical artists to intern at Pixar as part of the Pixar Technical Undergraduate Program, otherwise known as "PUP." These PUP interns, or "PUPs" spend the summer learning Pixar's pipeline, from people working in production, getting to know both the tools and philosophies Pixar uses to make animated feature films.
For those interested in joining the program, please visit the Pixar website and if you want to learn a little more about what it's like to be a PUP, check out this fun article on 2017 PUPs.
